New report on clinical research in Sweden
The Swedish Ethical Review Authority has submitted this year’s report on clinical research to the Government. In the report to the Ministry of Education and Research, we present statistics on all applications for clinical research that we approved during 2025. This is the first time we are able to present complete data for an entire calendar year since we began collecting this information.
During 2025, we approved a total of 1,932 applications for clinical research. The report shows, among other things, that observational studies are the most common study type and that clinical drug trials are often conducted in collaboration with other EU/EEA countries, primarily Spain, Germany, Italy and France.
We also describe how our statistics portal has developed during the year. The portal has been translated into English and expanded with several new variables. It enables users to search, visualise and download data on approved applications.
